Because “I know the theory” isn’t the same as “I can sit with a client”

Most psychology students finish their degree having read about CBT, addiction and relationships, but have never watched a real session, practised a difficult question out loud, or built a case formulation from scratch. The Clinical Skills Lab closes that gap. Every course is small, practical and built around one question: what would you actually say and do in the room?

  • Skills, not slides

Every topic ends with practice: a role play, a worksheet or a case you formulate yourself.

  • 10 seats, real attention

Small batches mean you get your turn in the hot seat and personal feedback.

  • Taught by a practising clinician

12+ years of clinical experience in hospitals, institutions and courts, brought into the classroom.

  • Ethics built in

All cases are anonymised and confidentiality is taught as a core clinical skill, not a footnote.

Course 1 · Marital & Relationship Counselling

The Couple Whisperer

Learn to sit in the room when two people can no longer hear each other.

Relationship and marital conflicts are rising, often because of poor communication, emotional distance and difficulty adjusting to each other. Couple counselling is a skill in steady demand in clinical and private practice, yet it is rarely practised in depth during a degree. This course gives you a clear, practical framework for working with couples calmly and ethically.

Aim of the training

To build the practical skills to handle relationship problems, marital conflict and emotional concerns in couples, from the first session to a workable plan.

What you will learn

  • Basics of relationship psychology: attachment, expectations and conflict patterns
  • Communication and conflict-resolution skills you can teach couples
  • Handling trust issues, infidelity and adjustment problems
  • Pre-marital and marital counselling techniques
  • Psychological aspects of divorce and child custody
  • Staying neutral: how not to take sides, and what to do when you feel pulled
  • Case discussions and role plays

Why join?

  • Learn real-life couple counselling skills
  • Handle complex emotional and relationship issues
  • Practise with case-based learning, not just theory
  • Build confidence in marital counselling sessions
  • High-demand skill in clinical and private practice

You will walk away able to

  • Run a structured first session with a couple
  • Spot the pattern behind the argument
  • Coach a couple through a calm, fair conversation
Practice scenario (fictional)A couple married three years: one partner feels unheard, the other feels constantly criticised. In pairs, you take the counsellor’s chair and have 10 minutes to help them hear each other without taking sides.

Course 2 · Addiction & Substance Abuse Counselling

Recovery Ready

Understand the craving, not just the substance.

Addiction affects students and adults alike, bringing behavioural, emotional and social problems with it. Lasting recovery needs skilled psychological support, and counsellors who understand the brain, the triggers and the relapse risk are needed in hospitals, rehab centres and private practice. This course is shaped by Dr. Umman’s years of work in addiction psychology, including at the National Drug Dependence Treatment Centre, AIIMS.

Aim of the training

To train you to understand addiction patterns and apply effective psychological interventions for recovery and relapse prevention.

What you will learn

  • Basics of addiction and the brain-behaviour mechanism
  • Types: alcohol, cannabis, vaping and opioids
  • The craving cycle and personal triggers
  • Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET): helping a client who isn’t sure they want to change
  • Cognitive and behavioural techniques in addiction
  • Relapse prevention strategies
  • Case handling and practical exposure

Why join?

  • Learn in-demand addiction counselling skills
  • Understand real clinical cases and interventions
  • Develop skills to manage cravings and relapse
  • Gain practical exposure and confidence
  • Strong scope in hospitals, rehab and private practice

You will walk away able to

  • Map a client’s craving cycle and trigger chain
  • Use MET-style conversations without lecturing
  • Draft a basic relapse-prevention plan
Practice scenario (fictional)A college student says, “I only vape on weekends, I’m fine.” You have one conversation to explore that gently, without arguing or labelling.

Course 3 · CBT & DBT

Mind Rewire

Two of the most-asked-for therapies. One practical month.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is among the most widely used, evidence-based therapies for anxiety, depression and many other conditions. Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) helps people manage intense emotions, impulsivity and relationship difficulties. Learn them side by side, so you know not just how each works, but when to reach for which.

Aim of the training

To train you to identify unhelpful thought patterns and apply structured CBT techniques, and to equip you with practical DBT skills for emotional dysregulation.

What you will learn

CBT

  • The CBT model: thought, emotion, behaviour
  • Identifying cognitive distortions
  • Cognitive restructuring and behavioural activation
  • CBT for anxiety and depression
  • Case formulation and session structure

DBT

  • Introduction to DBT and the biosocial model
  • Mindfulness skills
  • Emotion regulation and distress tolerance
  • Interpersonal effectiveness
  • Application in anxiety, depression and addiction
  • Role plays and case discussions throughout

Why join?

  • Learn structured, evidence-based therapy
  • Build a strong clinical foundation
  • Gain hands-on therapy skills
  • Handle difficult, high-risk cases with more confidence
  • Strengthen your clinical profile

CBT or DBT: which, when?

Reach for…When the client…
CBTis stuck in distorted thinking, avoidance or low mood and can work with structure
DBTis overwhelmed by emotions, acts on impulse or struggles in relationships
Practice scenario (fictional)A client says, “I failed one test, so I’m a failure.” Spot the distortion, then write the more balanced thought together with the client.

Course 4 · Emotional Intelligence

EQ Edge

The therapist’s first tool is the therapist.

Every technique works better when the person using it understands their own emotions. This course trains emotional intelligence as a real, practisable skill: noticing what you feel, steering it, reading others accurately and responding well. It is useful in therapy, in teams and in your own life as a student who will spend a career holding other people’s emotions.

Aim of the training

To help you understand, measure and strengthen emotional intelligence, and to apply it in counselling, teamwork and everyday relationships.

What you will learn

  • What emotional intelligence is, and the main models behind it
  • Self-awareness: naming emotions precisely and spotting your own triggers
  • Self-regulation: staying steady under pressure
  • Empathy and active listening that clients can feel
  • Assertive communication and handling conflict
  • Emotional intelligence in the therapeutic relationship
  • Managing stress and avoiding burnout as a helping professional
  • Activities, reflection exercises and role plays

Why join?

  • Become a more present, confident and trusted counsellor
  • Practise skills you can use from day one
  • Stand out in interviews, placements and group work
  • Look after your own mental health while you care for others
  • Open to students from every year and stream of psychology

You will walk away able to

  • Name and manage your own emotional responses
  • Listen without rushing to fix
  • Stay calm and kind in tense conversations
Practice scenario (fictional)A client says something that irritates you. You pause, name what you feel, and choose how to respond. We practise this out loud.

Looking for a longer, career-building programme?

Before you enrol

Does this certificate make me a licensed psychologist?

No. This is a skills-training certificate, a strong addition to your CV and learning. A clinical psychologist licence in India requires an RCI-recognised qualification. We are happy to guide you on the right route during career guidance.

Do I need prior experience?

No. Each course begins with the basics. A background in psychology helps, but you don’t need to have seen clients before.

Can I join online?

Yes. Classes run online or offline, on Saturdays and Sundays for one month.

Why only 10 seats?

So that everyone gets to practise, get feedback and ask questions. Role plays don’t work in a crowd.

Can I take more than one course?

Yes. Take one course or build a broader toolkit by combining them. Message us and we will help you plan the order.

Are real client cases used?

Cases are drawn from clinical practice, fully anonymised, with all identifying details removed to protect confidentiality.
